I quit my job. Yes! I finally decided to quit my job and I did it! I had no backup jobs or anything, just a simple plan that I’m going to spend the time between jobs to do what I’ve always wanted to do, write this blog, cook vegan food for myself, exercise, study and learn new things such as Python and spend time with family and friends. Ever since I started working around 12 years ago, I’ve been pretty good at finding a job before I quit the current one. Not this time. I watched so many TED talks and read books to give myself enough confidence to do this. In the end, what pushed me over the edge? Not those inspirational talks or books that told me to “not try” or “don’t care about what others think” or “find what failure means to you and why”, it was my health.
I wouldn’t say I’m super healthy. Sometimes I sleep late and sometimes I eat greasy stuff. I don’t like to exercise but I still do exercise and take walks every now and then. I’m lean but not skinny or muscular. I’m vegan and sometimes vegetarian when the options are lacking. I drink lots of water and I rarely drink sugary stuff. But, I am not healthy. It is when I got some test results back that really pushed me into quitting my job and focus on taking care of myself. My parents agree 100% on this and being Asian parents, that is pretty rare. Financial and job security is everything.
So I quit my job and I’m quite happy about it. Ever since I spoke to my manager that I wanted to quit, I felt the weight lifted off of me. I was free. I longed for this freedom. The freedom to do what I want to do. The freedom to go where I want to go. With full support from my loved ones, I’m going to take good care of myself during this time. I’m going to try to relax. One of the hardest things to do for me.
